I am just a simple, yet curious soul hungry to get the most out of life through everyday and every experience. For so long I’ve felt I had to live in this light or image that was appeasing to everyone else. I had it wrong. I had to begin a journey to define myself for myself or else I would be in this never-ending journey of living for them and not me.
Sitoria Speaks is a testament to the most powerful tool that we all possess and that is our voice. Our voice brings our story to life and our stories bring us closer together only to reveal that we are all trying to conquer this thing called life.
Now that I’ve poured a little of my heart to you, here’s a little bit more about me!
Coming from the “Windy City” to this “Southern Hospitality”, I have definitely gotten the best of both worlds and through it all I have discovered one of my true loves, writing. I love sharing my thoughts and expressing myself through writing with others. Currently I am an educator, believe it or not, where I teach 4th grade math in Memphis, Tennessee. Although I absolutely love my little monsters, nothing can tear me away from my passion. In fact, I have to give them a ton of credit because these children and the profession itself has taught me so much about who I am, where I am at with myself, and who I am striving to be. They have definitely become an integral part in my journey.
My motivation for coming down South was to pursue my college education and that’s exactly what I did! I am a proud alumna of the University of Memphis and graduated with a B.A. in Communications with a minor in Journalism. I can’t think of anything more satisfying, more revealing, more illuminating, more moving, more honest than a well-told story or experience. Prior to teaching I have written and interned for The New Tri-State Defender, a weekly published newspaper in Memphis, TN that serves the African-American communities in Memphis and surrounding areas, where I had several pieces published. Upon leaving, I began to transition into production. I worked at WHBQ FOX13 News as a production assistant and I absolutely loved it! It definitely sparked my interest in digital media, so be on the lookout!
As I transition into writing full-time I am challenging myself in new ways all the time. I also have a challenge for you. I challenge you to join me in this journey of owning your voice and whatever you have to say! You don’t speak for others, you can only speak for yourself.
